Albuquerque, named for Spain's Duke of Alburquerque, Fernandez
de la Cueva, was founded in 1706.
Albuquerque
combines a unique blend of cultures contributing to New Mexico's
rich history. Native Americans, Spanish, African Americans and Anglo
define the area's cultural diversity. Of the more than 1.8 million
state residents, nearly one third live in Albuquerque.
Albuquerque's central geographic location serves as the state's
economic center for communications, finance and transportation.
The city's economic base includes government, education, research
and development, call centers, and technology.
Residents
of Albuquerque enjoy the four distinct seasons with mild, sunny
climate (more than 300 days of sunshine a year), varied landscapes,
panoramic mountains, and awe-inspiring sunsets. The mild climate
provides many options to enjoy outdoor activities from golfing and
mountain biking, to hiking and rollerblading and hang-gliding.
The city is home to a thriving arts scene, technology and growing
job opportunities. Albuquerque's growing job opportunities, expanding
industry and mild climate are the attributes that attract many families
and adults looking for a steady economic base and quality of life.
